Two items were brought to my attention this morning that I thought I would share. Both had me thinking to myself, “Which music game company really “gets” their audience?”. The first was the amounts of money that were donated to the two presidential political campaigns. The second was two video examples of commercials for the games. This has got to be one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in a while. Gamer.tm posted a home brewed video of Coolio stopping by to see what all the fuss was about in Guitar Hero land. After a failed attempt at La Bamba, they take a fantastic voyage through the King of Pop’s “Beat It”.  Beware there may be some language at the end that isn’t Muppet friendly.

By now you’ve probably read all about AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack, the Wal-Mart exclusive Rock Band expansion announced this past Tuesday by MTV and Harmonix. Regardless of how you feel about the exclusivity deals with both Wal-Mart and the band, or the hefty $40 price tag for 18 songs, it’s hard to deny that this might be the greatest single content pack ever released in a rhythm game.

After the jump we have the newest video vignettes showing Neversoft’s motion capture work with rock and roll stars Hayley Williams of Paramore and frontman Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. While I was watching the Hayley video, my thoughts were, this looks exciting! I think I’d like to be mo-capped too! But the more I watched, the more I thought, ok, but it wasn’t me, so do I care? Neversoft has put quite a bit of time and money into making sure Guitar Hero World Tour contains a ton of famous playable characters (Sting, Zakk Wylde, Corgan, Williams, Jimi Hendrix etc).  I’m not sure I’m going to enjoy that any more than just playing as ”RockGamerJen”.  Take a look and tell us what you think.  Is it exciting to be able to play as, or play along with these superstars?  Will this help boost Guitar Hero’s sales?
