We’re still waiting for an official confirmation from Harmonix, but if this article on IGN is accurate, next week will see the release of seven brand-spanking new single tracks for you to choose from!  (And from four different artists to boot!)  Without further adieu, here’s what you can add to your DLC roster next week:

Activision today sent a reminder that they’re not out of the “complete band” game yet. While we’re still waiting for Guitar Hero World Tour to hit shelves, we have something to salivate over in the meantime.  In a welcome change of DLC policy, you’ll be able to download these new songs individually - not just as a pack.  Keep your eyes peeled starting as early as the October 26 game launch, for seven additional songs from REM, Rick Springfield, Blind Melon, Boston and Foreigner.

With just over 2 weeks until Rock Band 2 ships for the Xbox 360, are ya wondering which songs will be the hardest on drums?  Easiest on vocals?  Wonder no more, as the fine folks at IGN (with the help of Harmonix) have compiled difficulty listings for each song, for individual instruments and full band, from easiest song to the most difficult.  Time to start organizing those playlists on your iPod!

Listings are after the break:

While it may be old news to some, I’m betting there are quite a few of you out there who haven’t heard the latest confirmations from both Microsoft & Sony concerning instrument controller compatibility between the big upcoming music games.

With the controller “lock-out” between Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, many music gamers are loathe to purchase multiple full new setups this fall when the newest titles and equipment debut in order to play each game to its capacity.  Well, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 owners can now put those fears to rest:

Thanks to posts located HERE at the official Playstation blog, and HERE at the Gamerscore (Official Xbox) blog, both companies have confirmed that any instrument controller from Rock Revolution, Guitar Hero World Tour, and Rock Band 2 will work between all 3 games.  Now, instead of buying everything, you can make the choice you want, knowing you will be able to play everything with little hassle.

Or you can wait and see what our Rockin’ Reviewer, Cena, has to say about the new equipment once he gets his hands on them.  I’m curious to see how much of the new gear he’s gonna spring for, and where he’s gonna put it all!

With just about a month to go before Rock Band 2 hits store shelves (and my tiny living room), word is starting to hit the streets on some of the more specific details about the game. IGN and others have reported the list of Achievements (360) and Trophies (PS) you can earn for your special (read: short, yellow bus) skillz. Here’s the list for both below.

With the upcoming release of Rock Band 2, the continued debate over which system will offer the most bang for your buck continues to heat up.  Many people continue to press the point that the PS2 and Wii versions of the game will be inferior to their PS3 & 360 counterparts, due to their lack of gameplay features.

We’ve heard the complaints regarding no DLC, no online play and no character creation/customization.  As a current owner of all four of the above consoles, I’d have to agree that those complaints are valid, at least in regard to Rock Band 1.  However, in an article published on Wired.com, author Chris Kohler claims that he was told by Harmonix reps (unnamed in the article) at last month’s E3, that “the Wii version of Rock Band 2 will be a much more competitive product.”

Taken from Harmonix’s press release, and from our earlier Rock Band 2 Features” story, there’s an important piece of info that you may have skipped over if you didn’t read carefully.  84 songs on a disc is a LOT of rockin’ to get through, but Harmonix wanted to have over 100 songs included from the get go! Due to time constraints, the amount of tracks got cut down.  However, the upside of this is that those cut tracks will be available this fall (presumably on release day) as FREE downloadable content!
