Well folks, my dream has died. I was so excited at the prospect of the “Lips” wireless mic option for Rock Band and Guitar Hero - but now, alas, we’ll have to wait and see if Logitech’s is any good in December. Word is out that the two wireless microphones that will be coming with the “Lips” game release tomorrow will not be cross-compatible with any other games.
From the MTV article, we discovered with much dismay:
During a hotel demo of “Lips,” creator Keiichi Yano of Inis told MTV Multiplayer his wireless, accelerometer-enhanced microphone will only work with “Lips” at launch.
Perhaps a patch will come after launch? Quickly after launch? Like on Wednesday???
An article over at FakePlasticRock brought some good news for the vocalists in your fake-plastic-instrumented-band: wireless microphones! I know I’ve been waiting for something like this personally and now it looks like we’ll have two choices: Logitech’s Cordless Vantage Microphone - available in December, and perhaps even better for Xbox owners, the standard mic(s) that will come with the release of Microsoft’s singing game “Lips” on November 14th.
With a pricetag of $80 for the Logitech mic, and only $70 for the game “Lips “(which comes with two mics and the game) even Playstation folks might wanna go the second route and then re-sell the game! Plus, check out how fancy they are in the pic.
While it may be old news to some, I’m betting there are quite a few of you out there who haven’t heard the latest confirmations from both Microsoft & Sony concerning instrument controller compatibility between the big upcoming music games.
With the controller “lock-out” between Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, many music gamers are loathe to purchase multiple full new setups this fall when the newest titles and equipment debut in order to play each game to its capacity. Well, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 owners can now put those fears to rest:
Thanks to posts located HERE at the official Playstation blog, and HERE at the Gamerscore (Official Xbox) blog, both companies have confirmed that any instrument controller from Rock Revolution, Guitar Hero World Tour, and Rock Band 2 will work between all 3 games. Now, instead of buying everything, you can make the choice you want, knowing you will be able to play everything with little hassle.
Or you can wait and see what our Rockin’ Reviewer, Cena, has to say about the new equipment once he gets his hands on them. I’m curious to see how much of the new gear he’s gonna spring for, and where he’s gonna put it all!
After playing Rockband on xbox live last night, with out of 20 matches only 2 had their headsets connected, it struck me that there are still MANY people out there who haven’t figured out yet how to use the headset with the Fender Guitar or the drums. In addition, many of you haven’t gotten the joy of making a mic stand out of your drums and playing in your own little two person band while singing and shredding.
So, since I am one who needs pictures, I took some for you that hopefully will help you guys get connected. I want to chat with you online while we’re tugging of war together! If you can figure out my address from these pictures, don’t come stalk me if I taunted you after losing last night…

Rock on,

1) Mic stand - leave the base together for staibility, fat leg on bottom and top, skinny leg in the middle.

2) Headset with the drums - this little hole is right beneath the buttons in the center console area. Make sure you’re connected before you turn on the xbox so the headset registers. The little black cord and adapter come in a small plastic bag in the rock band kit - I got two in mine, perhaps once for each - but maybe an extra?
3) Headset with guitar -in my opinion, the little microscopic hole in the guitar is in the wrong spot, you would expect it to be BELOW the strap anchor, but it’s not - its about 4 inches above. I guess its closer to your head that way, but it seems to get tangled with the strap for me.

Engadget posted a story today on the ‘new’ 50 dollar premium Microphone for Rock Band. It’s a good marketing ploy.. I mean, when I start playing bad, I blame the guitar (Even though Jen can pick the same damn guitar up and play Tribe perfectly).. So if your singing bad… it must be the Microphone, right? Well.. That’s not the real story here… The real story is the box the microphone comes in.. Let me zoom in on a portion of it and see if you catch my drift. Yes. Even with my obvious lack of mad MSPaint skills, you can see that it says “Playstation III, Wii, and XBOX 360″. So, if you add 2 and 2 together, it makes Wii. Thanks Engadget, your my hero
Digg this story to get the word out!
{Insert from Jen: ok maybe I’m cute but dumb, but I didn’t get the point of this story at first. So to translate for all my cute friends, this implies that we might be seeing a Wii version of Rockband coming soon, since they put it on the packaging for this mike, and currently there is no Wii version for Rockband}
Edit: I really should have titled this article ‘Wii will, Wii will Rock you!’. What was I thinking!
