The folks at Guitar Hero have been racing like they’re in a distant second place and really want to get back to the top.  We’ve seen a huge improvement in the amount of downloadable ontent they’ve ben releasing since this summer and they’ve got another pack to add to the mix.  This one should make the Guitar Hero fans happy:  a new pack from DragonForce including a new debut off their newest album!

The pack, announced several weeks ago, is available as of August 21 and includes:

  • “Heroes of our Time” from the new album Ultra Beatdown
  • “Revolution Deathsquad”
  • “Operation Ground and Pound” both from Inhuman Rampage

DragonForce is best known for their impossibly challenging track “Through the Fire and Flames” from Guitar Hero III.  The song contains 3722 notes and helped make one notable shredder into an internet celebrity this year.

Well, folks, we’ve been working on this list for some time, and we are now comfortable declaring that the “leaked list” of the complete Guitar Hero World Tour Setlist that we found earlier is very likely ”the real deal”.  Two new sources of confirmation have appeared today that all but finalize the list completely. IGN wrote an article that had eight songs listed which we reported earlier today, but the second source came as a welcome surprise.

Special thanks to RockGamer.com commenter Alex on this latest find. He left a comment on our story on the leaked list saying, “Kent - Vinternoll2 is now officially confirmed by the band on their website.”  which led us through the interwebs on a chase for that story and ultimately turned into a gold mine. The Kent official website  and the related press release I found is in Swedish, so let’s hope the Swedish to English translation site was working!  This is the press release on their site after translation:

The folks over at IGN have put together a great preview of what we can expect from the upcoming release of Guitar Hero World Tour (which we know is a “Complete Band Game“).  Here are some of the most notable points we found:

  • 8 songs listed adds 2 new confirms to the “leaked list” - likely the real deal
  • Wireless drums are rock solid sturdy, quiet and adjustable (req 2 AA batt)
  • Use the touch pad on the new guitar to “tap” bass notes or to slide through purple-linked notes
  • Vocals adds an “easy” mode that only measures rhythm and not pitch
  • Vocalists get free-form areas where you can sing what and how you like
  • You can’t “save” a band member who’s failed -activate star power to boost them up a bit before they fail
  • If you pause the song mid-game, a handy 3 second countdown before the song starts back up

I am not really a fan of this “nibble nibble” form of receiving the GHWT setlist that’s going on, where we keep hearing bits and pieces through Stuff Mag, Tool Website, PS3 articles, etc.  I’d much rather just wait and get ONE announcement from Activision of the entire setlist so I can sit down and chew through that.

However, one of the “leaked” setlists has seen a striking number of its predictions confirmed through one source or another, so it’s gaining credibility as the announcements gain speed. Therefore, we’re going to provide that list, as well as the sources of confirmation, just in case it happens to end up being true.  If it is true, it’s one hell of a list!   Thanks to the ga-forums for originally compiling all of this and keeping up with the sources. We’ve added a few more of our own as well.

Warner Music fired a shot at MTV and Activision, saying that it may pull out of both the Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises.   Edgar Bronfman of WMG is saying that they aren’t getting their fair share of sales, but Activision was quick to fire back.

An article coming from the Financial Times quoted Activision’s CEO Robert Kotick saying “I think his view was … that [Warner Music] should be compensated the way they might for a performance on iTunes. But, this is an entirely different business [than iTunes] that is very technically complex.  We’re going to favor those publishers that recognize and appreciate how much we can add value to their artists.”

A Warner Music spokesman said the company had “enormous respect” for the investment and creativity game-publishers had brought to the music-gaming business.

He added: “We hope that our partners in the gaming space appreciate not only the value of their own contributions but also those of the recording artists, songwriters, record labels and music publishers on which their games are significantly based.”

How come the benjamins always seem to get in the way of the fans?   Warner’s catalog includes Led Zeppelin, R.E.M., The B-52s, Green Day, and Depeche Mode.  Look at DragonForce album sales before and after Guitar Hero III and tell me it’s not worth it!

If you thought our last Guitar Hero World Tour article was nothing but good news, this will make you wet your pants!  (Please clean up and come back quick!)

IGN reports that another rock icon will be a playable character, and it’s the Prince of Darkness himself, OZZY OSBOURNE!!!!!  And with Ozzy now in the game, what good would it do without some killer tracks to go along with him?  Ready to pee yourself again?  Arguably the 2 most requested Ozzy tracks will be included on the disc, and without further hesitation, they are:

A quick update from the trenches for Metallica fans.  Rockgamer.com reported on Friday the full setlist of Metallica’s upcoming new album “Death Magnetic”, which will be released simultaneously in stores and as downloadable content for Guitar Hero III.  According to Billboard.biz, we now have the exact date in September - Friday, September 12th.

While new albums are traditionally released on a Monday/Tuesday schedule, Metallica has again chosen a Friday release, as they did with the release of their 2003 album “St. Anger”, possibly to help stem pirating. Smell that?  That’s a dead horse - so I’m not gonna beat that one any further.
