We first heard from Eurogamer that the UK folks were going to see Rock Band 2 on the nebulous release date of “this side of Christmas”. Now it seems that Videogamer has gotten their hands on the offical word and that word is that Xbox owners will get the game first (just like the US) for an exclusive period starting November 21.

The game starts shipping November 14, but gamers will have to use their current drums and guitars since standalone hardware won’t be hitting shelves until December.  No word was released on the availablity of the game for other consoles, however if the deal goes down the same way as in the US, it’s possible that PS folks will only have to wait an additional 30 days or so.

With Activision, there is no such thing as a quiet entrance onto the scene.  The marketing blitz is in full force preparing for their upcoming “full band” game’s arrival in late October/November so what is a poor gamer to do with all this Guitar Hero World Tour overload?  Take advantage of the specials, I say!  How does a free bass guitar with a pre-order sound?

Well, folks, we’ve been working on this list for some time, and we are now comfortable declaring that the “leaked list” of the complete Guitar Hero World Tour Setlist that we found earlier is very likely ”the real deal”.  Two new sources of confirmation have appeared today that all but finalize the list completely. IGN wrote an article that had eight songs listed which we reported earlier today, but the second source came as a welcome surprise.

Special thanks to RockGamer.com commenter Alex on this latest find. He left a comment on our story on the leaked list saying, “Kent - Vinternoll2 is now officially confirmed by the band on their website.”  which led us through the interwebs on a chase for that story and ultimately turned into a gold mine. The Kent official website  and the related press release I found is in Swedish, so let’s hope the Swedish to English translation site was working!  This is the press release on their site after translation:

Looks like the folks across the pond are caught up in the media wave for Rock Band starting this past weekend.  Xbox 360 is sponsoring a promotion that will allows rockers to compete in a band for a chance at one week at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.  To celebrate, Maximo Park’s Girls Who Play Guitar will be available for download  (Xbox only) on June 10th.  No word yet if this will be available in the US as well. Check out the DLC Central tab to hear an MP3 snippet and some videos.

[Edit Mike: I was gonna write my own story on this but the money conversion was giving me a headache]

Europeans, get those pitchforks ready. Rock Band will be hitting stores on the 23rd May. Fantastic, until you delve a little deeper. You’re going to need a spare £180/€240 though if you’re to pick up the game and instruments though, which is outrageous considering the US’ bundle is $169, or around £85/€105. Admittedly we expect to pay more in Europe, but £95 extra?

Breaking it all down, you’re going to have to pay for the Instrument Edition at £129.99/€169.99 which includes the drum kit, guitar and microphone, then buy the game separately at £49.99/€69.99. It seems that even those with two Guitar Hero guitars don’t escape by buying things separately, because for the time being at least, a microphone has not been announced as something that is shipping separately. Wireless guitars will be sold separately for £59.99/€79.99, with the drum kit coming in at £69.99/€89.99.

All previous Rock Band content released for North America will be made available to Europe on the 27th May, and all future content released will be available immediately to Europe as well. Don’t forget that Europe also get nine extra tracks included on the disc:

  • Blur “Beetlebum” (English)
  • Oasis “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” (English)
  • Tokio Hotel “Monsoon” (English)
  • Muse “Hysteria” (English)
  • Les Wampas “Manu Chao” (French)
  • Playmo “New Wave” (French)
  • Die Toten Hosen “Hier Kommt Alex” (German)
  • Juli “Perfekte Welle” (German)
  • H-Block X “Countdown to Insanity” (German)

Two positive signs this morning indicate that the folks across the pond may have reason to expect an imminent release date for Rock Band - which of course we’ve been lucky enough to have since last November.

First - this ad from a French retailer showing a price of 149.99 in Euros with a 5/22/08 expected date in stock.

Second - Also found was a promo site for the Stag and Dagger Music Festival in London on May 15th and you can see in the logo that Rock Band, Harmonix and 360 are all pictured as show’s sponsors.  See the link to the festival. Could be a pre-launch promo, no?

The May 15th date for the festival would certainly jibe as a pre-launch promo based on the May 22nd date in the French retailer’s ad, and also would be within the April -June time frame that was recently mentioned.   Let’s keep our fingers crossed, but may I dare suggest not holding our breath?

Thanks MaxConsole and Kotaku for both!
