With the upcoming release of Rock Band 2, the continued debate over which system will offer the most bang for your buck continues to heat up. Many people continue to press the point that the PS2 and Wii versions of the game will be inferior to their PS3 & 360 counterparts, due to their lack of gameplay features.
We’ve heard the complaints regarding no DLC, no online play and no character creation/customization. As a current owner of all four of the above consoles, I’d have to agree that those complaints are valid, at least in regard to Rock Band 1. However, in an article published on Wired.com, author Chris Kohler claims that he was told by Harmonix reps (unnamed in the article) at last month’s E3, that “the Wii version of Rock Band 2 will be a much more competitive product.”

Taken from Harmonix’s press release, and from our earlier “Rock Band 2 Features” story, there’s an important piece of info that you may have skipped over if you didn’t read carefully. 84 songs on a disc is a LOT of rockin’ to get through, but Harmonix wanted to have over 100 songs included from the get go! Due to time constraints, the amount of tracks got cut down. However, the upside of this is that those cut tracks will be available this fall (presumably on release day) as FREE downloadable content!

With all the Rock Band-related hype and tidbits floating around the Internet the last week or so, here’s one that’s really worth mentioning.
This juicy morsel, posted in an article by 360 editor Nate Ahern on IGN Insider, referenced via Kotaku, states as follows:
Immediately upon purchasing Rock Band 2 you’ll have the ability to download a huge library of songs, as well as all of the songs off of the original disc as a free download.

In an update to our story yesterday, Harmonix has issued a formal press release confirming 12 DLC tracks from The Who for the week of July 15th!!! After months of uncertainty, this announcement is sure to make a large amount of Rock Band users quite happy indeed.

Remember when you were excited at the prospect of The Who’s “Who’s Next” album joining the ranks of Rock Band’s DLC roster? Remember when we reported that the tracks were MIA, and the album was nixed? Well, there may still be some hope.

[Edit: Looks like the IGN folks have updated their story and are now stating that the Pixies will be out the week of June 24th instead - we wondered why they were announcing before the official Harmonix announcement!]
IGN is reporting that the tomorrow’s DLC announcement will be the Pixies. According to the article, come June 17th or 19th depending on your system, you can download tracks from the 1989 Pixies album “Doolittle”. 14 master tracks of pure alternative goodness, and they are:

- Dead
- Debaser
- Gouge Away
- Here Comes Your Man
- Hey
- I Bleed
- La La Love You
- Monkey Gone To Heaven
- Mr. Grieves
- No 13 Baby
- Silver
- Tame

From the rumor mill, an article posted on Kotaku 2 weeks ago has some scarce, but still interesting information regarding the possibility of Rock Band 2 making its way to store shelves, along with some new pricing and bundle configurations for the current game.
While the details and concrete info are practically nonexistent in the article, it speaks of an internet survey floating around that has some interesting questions about pricing and future installments of the series.
