Harmonix has announced the latest addition to its selection of downloadable albums: The Colour and the Shape, the Foo Fighters’ hit 1997 effort which features hit singles “Monkey Wrench” and “My Hero.” If you have only the original Rock Band, you’ll be missing out on ”Everlong” which is already on the disc for Rock Band 2.

For a list of all the songs on the album, and to hear previews of the songs, head over to RockGamer.com’s DLC Central where we’ve got them on tap.

Months after rumors and speculation that the music game companies were in battle to win the enormous catalog of Beatles tunes, a winner has emerged.  Apple Corps and MTV, along with Harmonix today announced their partnership to create a brand new video game to feature the songs and span the career of the Beatles.  Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Star, as well as Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison have been involved and have blessed the deal.

Very few details about the game itself were discussed and more details are expected over the coming months.  What we do know is that this will not be a Rock Band title.  This will be a custom title, released by Holiday of 2009.  “By presenting their music and artistry through the creative filter of a groundbreaking video game, we are giving legions of fans and music lovers all over the world a profound, new way to experience The Beatles,” said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and Co-Founder, Harmonix. “This game will be a celebration of the Beatles undeniable legacy.”

While Metallica’s newest album Death Magnetic has been available for download since September 11 for both Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero World Tour, many folks waited for the World Tour release before making their purchase.  Now that they have, we’re hearing complaints that the file size for the downloadable content is huge and hogging up space on their hard drives.

With hard drive size being limited, and so many songs set to come out in the near future (Rock Band alone claims they will have 500 songs available by yearend), this could cause some gamers to question the purchase.  One rockgamer wrote “Is it just me or is anyone else bothered by this.  For the album it is 1.34 GB, freaking insane.  I was thinking of downloading it but now I don’t know. ”

Oasis’s new album, ‘Dig Out Your Soul’, is headed to Guitar Hero World Tour.  The band’s seventh album, which debuted at Number Five on the US Billboard chart this week, will be available as World Tour DLC in 2009.

If you can’t wait that long, a handful of songs from the LP - ‘The Shock Of The Lighting’, ‘Bag It Up’ and ‘Waiting For The Rapture’ - will be available as DLC during the week of November 3rd.  Guitar Hero DLC being offered so soon after release?  I think I smell a DLC war brewing, and the winner will be us.

Let the games begin.

As we announced last week, the best selling album “Dr. Feelgood” by the bad boys of Motley Crue is a’comin to Rock Band as downloadable content!  With less than 10 weeks to go before the end of the year, we’ll likely continue to see album-sized announcements, as Harmonix marches toward their goal of having 500 songs in circulation by yearend.

“Dr. Feelgood” will be available for $15.99 (1280 Microsoft Points) for the album, or $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) per track. Purchasing the album will provide the user with the ability to play through the entire album in Rock Band 2’s different modes, including Quickplay, where the album will be called out in its own subheader, and Tour Challenges, where users will be prompted to play through all of the tracks in a standalone setlist. These tracks join “Saints of Los Angeles”, “Down at the Whisky” and “Face Down in the Dirt” previously offered as DLC, to bring the total of Mötley Crüe songs in the game to 13.

In a surprise revelation, Mötley Crüe’s official space on imeem.com has announced that the entire “Dr. Feelgood” album will be released for Rock Band on October 14th (Presumably for Xbox 360, and then October 16th for Playstation 3) “through your console’s online marketplace”.

More on this as it develops, but for now, here’s the expected tracklist…

AC/DC

A report from The New York Times has confirmed MTV’s deal with AC/DC to release a Rock Band expansion disc featuring eighteen of the band’s tracks featured on the “AC/DC Live at Donnington” DVD. The game will be made available exclusively through Wal-Mart as part of their marketing blitz for the band’s upcoming album “Black Ice” and will hit the store’s shelves on November 2nd for $29.98 on the Playstation 2, and $39.98 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii.

Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 owners will also receive a one-time use code with their copy of the game, allowing them to export the eighteen tracks for use in Rock Band and Rock Band 2. As of yet, there is no news regarding a possible DLC release of these tracks, despite previous comments from Angus Young that the band wasn’t into the model of selling singles, and preferred that listeners get their work in a full album format.

It’s the last week of the month and Harmonix is blessing us with another full album of rock/funk/punk goodness - this time by RHCP with their 1991 hit “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”.  All the songs on the album will be included, except for “Give It Away”, which will be on the Rock Band 2 disc - sorry, Rock Band classic owners.

Each song will be priced individually at 160  for XBox folks or $1.99 for Playstation owners,  while the entire album will cost 1600 / $19.99 (a pretty good deal for 16 songs!). Look for them next week on Tuesday, September 30 for Xbox Live, and Thursday, October 2nd on the PlayStation Store.  For previews of the songs, check out RockGamer.com’s DLC Central.
