According to the recently released October sales numbers by the NPD group, first week sales for the newest installment in the Guitar Hero series may have been a disappointment to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick and Co. Sales for Guitar Hero World Tour in its first week (launch date October 26) were 534,000 units. Compare this to last year’s October release of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, whose sales were 1.4 million units in its first week and you’ll see the huge disparity. Could we be seeing signs of the rock game war raging between Activision and its closest competitor Harmonix’s Rock Band series?

According to an Activision press release and Wired.com, apparently both Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour will have new downloadable content from the Killers on November 25th, the same day their 3rd album “Day and Age” hits stores.
Wired.com reports that three Killers songs will arrive in Rock Band: “Mr. Brightside,” Smile Like You Mean It” and “Spaceman,” with the final song coming from their new disc.
Activision’s announcement has three songs as well, but with two of the three coming from the new album plus the hit single “Mr. Brightside”. The new songs will be “Human” and “Losing Touch”.
Check out DLC Central for updates and previews.

Has anyone done the math lately on how many songs Harmonix has to release each and every week in order to hit their stated goal of having 500 songs out by the end of the year? It’s a pretty big number and this week gets us another 10 songs. Three different 3-packs from the Dead Kennedys, Misson of Burma, and the Century Media Girls of Metal pack which includes two by Lacuna Coil. Also available is an on-the-cheap single from Crooked X. Check out DLC Central for a listen and look at the tracks. Details below.

If you live in NYC or are visiting the area, this is the kind of crazy shizz you’ll see at Almost Famous Tuesdays at the Village Pourhouse.
’nuff said.
We told ya last month that today would bring new DLC for Guitar Hero World Tour- from an ACTUAL Guitar Hero, no less. That’s right, today we find Jimi Hendrix downloadable content available on Xbox Live for 440 points. From Chicago Horde’s update:
…Jimi Hendrix 3-pack! All songs are masters, and they will be available for Xbox 360 & PS3 owners as a 3-pack for 440 MS Points($5.49) or individually for 160 MS Points ($1.99) each. The included tracks are as follows:
- “If 6 was 9″
- “Little Wing”
- “Fire (Live)”
We’re keeping track of DLC announcements, games releases, local events and more on our new Events Calendar as we report them, so if you’re having trouble remembering what’s coming when - make sure to check that out. A little snippet of the next several days lives right here on the RockGamer.com front page.
And now for a new segment on the program called “Nearly News”.
RockGamer.com’s mission is to be the one stop shop for all things music game related. We try to keep you up to date on everything critical that the rock gaming enthusiast absolutely MUST have to be “in the know”. The problem with this is my opinion of must-have, and your opinion of must-have may not exactly be the same. So to be fair, I’m creating a new section called “Nearly News”. In these segments, I’ll post links to stories from other sites that I came across but find too boring to do a full report. Or, shameless press releases that don’t warrant full coverage - they’re just trying to give us something to talk about. Read on for more about the segment and the links to recent stories.
Election Week is over and Almost Famous Tuesdays is BARACK… er.. BACK with a vengeance.
We’ll be rocking the Village Pourhouse (11th St & 3rd Ave) tonight from 7-11PM with — get this — 55 NEW SONGS, including:
