I have been asked a few times how expensive drumming can be. So although it is not completely setup, I added a picture of my set in the middle of setup because I wanted to stop and write this blog.
I am going to share with you the cost of my set starting with what you see in the picture.
Let’s begin with the basics.
First when buying a set you need to decide if you are buying acoustic or electronic. After that you need something to hold your drums.
You will get something that the drums mount on. The more expensive the set, the better your hardware (stands, mounts, arms ETC) will be.
However you will get nothing like you see in my picture.
When I bought my electric kit, it came with this heavy duty plastic rack. I guess I should not say the more expensive the better the hardware, because my drum kit cost $4,000.00 and I could not even get a metal or steel rack!
So what you see is a pearl rack. It is a very good rack and came with a price tag of $400.00.
Since pearl does not know what kind of drums you will be mounting, it cones with no L arms (also called tom mounts). The reason for this is because different drum companies make different tom mounts. The 4 brackets that it comes with, is great to hold cymbal stands.
Since none of the parts from my pintech rack fits the pearl, I had to buy all new brackets to mount my drums. To get 3 brackets cost $90.00. I also had to buy new L arms to actually hold the drums on the bracket. Those go for $13.00 a piece, grand total for those $39.00.
Since this is an electronic kit. You need a drum module, or the thing we drummers call a brain.
I have the Roland TD 8. Now keep in mind I bought it when it was one of the two top Roland brains. The TD 10 was the number 1. On sale the TD 8 cost $2,000.00
I do not plan on getting the Roland TD 20 at this point. My brain is great, and the TD 20 goes for $1,999.00.
I have cheap cymbals that came with my kit. The only E cymbal I bought was a Roland V12. I use acoustic cymbals when I am not playing in my house or doing a gig. I use a Zildgen Sabian mix. My cymbal’s total over $6,000.00.
Then of course you have a thrown. I bought a pork pie origianally. That was $200.00. Since my double brace stand that the seat sits on got lost , I am using a $80.00 Pearl.
You cannot use any stand as different companies use different things. I called Pork Pie to replace it. Well it cost as much as a new seat!
Then there is a bass drum kick trigger. I use the Roland KD 8. When I bought mine it cost me $300.00. Now you can get it for like $150.00.
Then you need a bass drum pedal. I use a DW 5000. When I got mine I paid $200.00, now they cost $160.00.
Since I have an electric kit now, you need cables to hook everything up.
You can go the cheap way or the expensive way. I bought high end cables so that ran me about $300.00.
I have various boom arms and stands. These are things you will pick up over the time of playing. I use a snare stand for my snare, that runs about $40.00.
Now do you see why I say drums are the most expensive instrument to play?
I think I covered everything. There are way more expensive kits then what I have, but what I have is not cheap by any means!
If you have any questions you know how to reach me =)
Well thanks to things called apps for the Iphone, I can now blog and post on the go.
By the way that is my 6 year old daughter Madison. She told me I had to share the photo where we both FC’d Hysteria.
Although I set this up correctly, we will see if it goes in the right area of the site. ( fingers crossed)
Just a heads up, look for a video and full blog in the next day or two about the fund raiser I will be doing in March.
Sponsored by RockGamer, I will be doing a Rock Band Marathon for God’s waiting children. They help give orphans a home in the Ukraine. Trust me folks from things I have read and talking to the folks at the organization, this is greatly needed!
Like I said look for me to talk more about this in my upcoming video, as well as a full blog with links in the next day or two.
By the way here is a picture of my daughter getting 100% with me in Rock Band.
Until next time=)
I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas. My end of the year Review has been done, but all of us have been spending time with the family so it has not made it up in the corner yet. I will post the videos at the end of this blog.
Also we have some new things that are coming up this year. The first thing out of the gate is the brand new Kick Box along with the new Hi-Hat box. Mike has been busy and the boxes look great! If you want to take a look at the new boxes, click the links below.
I will also be doing a review on the J5 sometime in the beginning of the year. This is a long time coming and I cannot wait to finally do this one!
Also I just talked to Mark the CEO of the Destroyer Pedal. Things are looking up for the Destroyer Pedal. He has been hard at work and has even made a GHWT pedal. That pedal will be on it’s way to me next week and will be the second review of the year.
Also I will be doing the Boots N Pants Hi-Hat box review as well.
I am also looking forward to doing the Midi Rocker review sometime in the first part of the New Year. This is from ByteArts who started out making strum bars for the Rock Band Guitars. I am also very excited about this one as well.
So that is the first reviews we will have in 2009. This is starting out the year with a bang and this is just the beginnning.
I also know that things are still being worked on site wise. We are still working on PodCast which should not only be able to be seen on Ipod’s but also Zunes.
So this is just a brief what is to come. Keep your eye on my blog for all upcoming news:)
PEACE, LOVE AND KEEP ROCKING OUT!!

OK folks in the new way of doing things, every time a new review is posted I will blog so you know it is up.
With so many things going on, it is hard sometime to keep up with a schedule. So I will also blog here the upcoming things I have coming out and when I think they will be up. All dates are subject to change.
This week we have the Ion Vs. GoodWoods. This video was shot back on November 17th, but I just now have time to get it up. So look in Cena’s Corner for this review as we explore the good and bad of both sets, and also figure out where your money is better spent.
I want to say thanks to everyone who donated so far. I will not be able to make it to New York because of issues with work. As promised all of the money has been donated to the Child’s Play foundation.
I was able to raise $241.00. I want to remind everyone that there is still time to donate. Even if it is after the event on December 10th, you can donate directly to the cause of send it to me and I will get it to them.
Also if you wish to donate to me and what I do, you can do that as well:)
Thanks everyone! Myself and the children of Child’s Play greatly appreciate it!
Hello All
Sorry I have been quiet, but I have been trying to do what I can for the upcoming Funde Razor from my end as well as Christmas time.
I have over 20 nieces and nephews which three are married to Military men and moved away. Two to Hawaii and one to New York. So we have to try to get their stuff out. Since they are coming home for Christmas, it makes it really busy as I will celebrate Christmas about 4 different times because my family is so big.
So this time of year is a very busy time for me. I have two reviews I have shot I just have to get them up which I am hoping to do this week.
So this is the reason why I have not posted anything. I will get these two I have now up and then my next review will be out in the new year of 2009:)
So thanks for your patience, and I hope everyone has a great holiday season.
As you all may know the Child’s Play Funde Razor is upon us. Well Child’s Play needs help and so do I! Check out the video below and thanks for your help in advance:)
