Poor Wii owners.  Somehow they are always treated like the red-headed step children of the console wars.  Apparently you won’t be getting the jimi Hendrix downloadable content that the rest of us can choose.  According to an Activision PR rep:

Due to technical or licensing restrictions, the DLC offerings will not be the same for every console platform. For example, certain artists prefer to keep the integrity of the track pack rather than releasing singles and the Wii’s infrastructure only allows us the ability to release single songs as DLC.

Apparently the Wii platform can’t handle packs and the late Jimi Hendrix really prefers you have ALL of the songs or forget it!  Well at least you guys get the consolation of Wii Music.  Oh wait

Wii owners who were holding off on getting Rock Band 2 after the less than fully-featured release of the first game may find themselves ready to run out and plunk down their pre-order following IGN’s latest insight into the game’s Wii release.

The game is set to have all of the current DLC for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 available for download, as well as all of the various online head to head and co-op modes, however there are no plans to allow players to export tracks from the first game or the Track Pack expansions into Rock Band 2, making it impossible to have the full library available. Additionally, DLC can be stored on an SD card, but can only be played directly from the Wii’s limited system memory, meaning that you can download all of the songs you want, but you can only play as many as you can fit onto the Wii itself at a time.

One more week, one more week!!  We have Rock Band for the Xbox at our house and we will be getting Rock Band 2 in just over one week!  So what, you say?  Well, I just realized this is the last week that we will be playing our DLC songs in Rock Band 1 - pretty soon we’ll be playing all of our DLC with our Rock Band 2 characters!  How exciting!!    Of course, it will be just a little bit longer for the Playstation folks, and actually I probably shouldn’t even bring up the whole Wii thing…..maybe I should just move on to a safer subject and talk about this week’s downloadable content for Rock Band!  (whew - back on safe ground again!)

The folks at Harmonix will have in store on Tuesday for you Metalheads:

All That Remains Pack (240 points/$2.99), including

  • “This Calling” - (80 Points 99¢)
  • “Chiron”- (80 Points 99¢)
  • “Two Weeks” - (80 Points 99¢)
  • Code Monkey Smeeguel is in Quebec until tomorrow night so we’ll get him working on some video previews on DLC Central as soon as he gets back. Until then, you’ll have to wait, but you can do as they do in SouthPark and “Blame Canada”!

With just over 2 weeks until Rock Band 2 ships for the Xbox 360, are ya wondering which songs will be the hardest on drums?  Easiest on vocals?  Wonder no more, as the fine folks at IGN (with the help of Harmonix) have compiled difficulty listings for each song, for individual instruments and full band, from easiest song to the most difficult.  Time to start organizing those playlists on your iPod!

    Listings are after the break:

With the upcoming release of Rock Band 2, the continued debate over which system will offer the most bang for your buck continues to heat up.  Many people continue to press the point that the PS2 and Wii versions of the game will be inferior to their PS3 & 360 counterparts, due to their lack of gameplay features.

We’ve heard the complaints regarding no DLC, no online play and no character creation/customization.  As a current owner of all four of the above consoles, I’d have to agree that those complaints are valid, at least in regard to Rock Band 1.  However, in an article published on Wired.com, author Chris Kohler claims that he was told by Harmonix reps (unnamed in the article) at last month’s E3, that “the Wii version of Rock Band 2 will be a much more competitive product.”
