RockGamer.com spent some time at MTV headquarters today playing with the Rock Band AC/DC Live Expansion Pack as well as Rock Band 2 for the Wii console. Join us tonight for a question/answer session on RockGamer Live where we’ll give you our thoughts on both as well as answer any questions you have on ANY of the music games out there, including Rock Revolution.
The show starts at 7pm EST and will run for one hour. Can’t wait to see you there!

Hi everyone, Code Monkey Smeeguel here with a DLC Central update for all you awesome readers. You may have noticed that all the difficulty ranges on the Rock Band tracks have changed from a 1-9 to a 0-6 scale. No, this is not a typo, and no, the game hasn’t gotten any easier (except for the dumbed down vocals recognition). Instead, the numbers have been updated to reflect the new tiering system launched along with the release of Rock Band 2.
So here’s how Rock Band now separates tracks by difficulty. Full band and per-instrument difficulties range from 0 bubbles for “Very Easy” to 5 bubbles for “Very Hard”. The most terrifying songs get the special honor of having the bubbles replaced by little red devil heads. All the DLC released to date has been re-tiered by Harmonix to make it compatible with the scale, as well as all of the songs from Rock Band 1 (which you surely must have imported after reading our persuasive article about that, right?).
FUN FACT: “Thrasher” is the only DLC track so far with a “demonic” full band difficulty.
Enjoying the site’s new look so far? There’s much more to come, but in the meantime leave us a comment to tell us what you think.
Happy Hump Day rockers! Several folks from Scorehero.com and I are at Neversoft today testing out the new Guitar Hero World Tour game. We should be here until around 5pm PST (8PM Eastern) but I’ll update this post if we end earlier. Why does that matter? Well, the super techie people from SH have set up a live blog (no video yet only photos) to answer questions during this event - so if you want to join us live click the link to be directed to the live streaming event! If you scroll back in the blog history to around 3pm PST, you may even catch RockGamerJen talking about the Customization-awesomeness of the Character Creator!
Hello rockers - just a quick update to let you know that RockGamer and I may be a little light on article writing for the next two days as I’ll be flying over to sunny California to spend time with the Activision clan to do some hands on preview work with Guitar Hero World Tour!
I’ll be joining a pretty big group from Scorehero along with some other great GH players. We’ll be learning about new details in a press event on Tuesday night and then spending several hours over at Neversoft playing the full game on Wednesday. Check back soon for EXCLUSIVE info we can pass along when we return!
It’s Tuesday, and I think things are finally getting back to normal here at RockGamer’s NYC headquarters. This weekend was our favorite code monkey, Smeeguel’s big Three-Oh Birthday and it was a Rock Band filled extravaganza thanks to Harmonix.
Friday: Tickets to CrueFest in Saratoga Springs (outside Albany, NY) helped with Day One. Miguel’s talent finished it off as we entered, then proceeded to win (based on a kicka$$ score) the Rock Band competition on the Second Stage Experience at the concert. Long story short (thanks to Youtube) Jen and Miguel got to open for Motley Crue playing Rock Band on stage in front of approximately 20,000 people!
Saturday:
Miguel pisses off the neighbors drumming late into the night, excited to have scored a Rockpedal. He thinks he’s a big boy drummer now.
Sunday: Jen bakes a really bad looking impersonation of an Xbox Cake (pretty tasty though!) and friends all sing Happy Birthday Wishes.
Miguel then turns around to see this on the Rock Band Mesage of the Day screen:
All in all, we had a great weekend and none of it would have been possible without help from Harmonix’s Sean Baptiste, John Drake, and Helen “Hellion” McWilliams. Special thanks also to Jordan Ellington of RockPedal.com. All of you helped me make this a birthday that scored me MAJOR “Awesome Girlfriend” points and one he’ll never forget. You ROCK!
With all the marathon/Endless Setlist festivities going around the last few weeks in preparation for Rock Band 2’s release next month, count 2 more among Rock Band’s elite.
RockGamer.com forum member blakbuzzrd (game character Bran on bass) and yours truly, Chicago Horde (game character Shadow Weaver G on guitar) set our sites on completing the Endless Setlist. After a total of 8 long hours, we managed to knock it out of the park and add some platinum icons to our repertoire.
Over eight months ago when Mike and I first had the idea to start a website based on news, rumors, updates and more about music/rhythm games, I had just been introduced to newly released Rock Band and Guitar Hero III games. I assumed there must have been a GH and a GH II, but other than that, I wasn’t familiar with any previous iterations of similar games. Since then, it seems like a tsunami of new titles has been washing us away with new releases and announcements and it’s getting hard to keep up. So, I’m wondering, where should RockGamer go from here Continue Reading “Music Game Floodwaters Have Broken Through the Dam” »
