According to the LA Times, a man accused of posting nine unreleased songs from the upcoming “Chinese Democracy” album by Guns N Roses has been arrested for violating federal copyright laws.  Although one of these songs, Shackler’s Revenge, was allegedly briefly available on RockGamer’s DLC Central page via a YouTube video preview, Code Monkey Smeeguel has not been shackled for allegedly posting a link to it.  The video was allegedly gone almost in the blink of an eye and only a few lucky souls could even verify that they heard it.  For more on the story in the LA Times, click here.


Again capitalizing on the “Air Guitar Phenomenon” (huh?!?), Nitrous Roxide and his pals are delivering expansion packs on the megahit  successful  well liked  bizarre  well, let’s just say “interesting” Guitar Hero spinoff Guitar Hero: Air Guitar Rocker.  Expect to see 80’s Rock, and Heavy Metal, each featuring 10 songs around August 1st for $14.99.

Taken from Harmonix’s press release, and from our earlier Rock Band 2 Features” story, there’s an important piece of info that you may have skipped over if you didn’t read carefully.  84 songs on a disc is a LOT of rockin’ to get through, but Harmonix wanted to have over 100 songs included from the get go! Due to time constraints, the amount of tracks got cut down.  However, the upside of this is that those cut tracks will be available this fall (presumably on release day) as FREE downloadable content!

This past Friday, Bloomberg.com reported that video game publisher Konami has filed suit against Harmonix/MTV/Viacom over claims of Rock Band violating patents they filed back in 2002-2003. Konami is reportedly seeking cash compensation, in addition to trying to prevent Harmonix from using the instrument controllers in their games. Can’t get enough Guitar Hero?  Looking for GH merchandise past the games & guitars?  The Air Guitar Hero just not enough?  Well, come this fall, Activision is teaming up with McFarlane Toys to bring figures based off characters from the Guitar Hero franchise!

McFarlane Toys has a track record of producing some of the most beautifully sculpted renditions of characters ever, and their history of “licensed rocker” figures is quite impressive.  Just to name a few, they’ve churned out figures of Alice Cooper, Janis Joplin, Eddie from Iron Maiden, a Metallica box set, KISS, Rob Zombie, and the list goes on from there, but you get the idea.

In an update to our story yesterday, Harmonix has issued a formal press release confirming 12 DLC tracks from The Who for the week of July 15th!!!  After months of uncertainty, this announcement is sure to make a large amount of Rock Band users quite happy indeed.
