Rock Band fans - we need your input. RockGamer.com is sending a few ace reporters to Pax at the end of this month and we’d like to get an idea of the burning questions you still have about Rock Band 2 or Harmonix in general that you haven’t seen answered yet.

We’ll take those directly to the top and then report back to you with the news!  Just post your question in the comments section so we can make a list.  We’ll get as many of them answered as we can - even if it means holding someone hostage at plastic gunpoint.

We even have prizes to give away to the folks who come up with the most questions that make it onto our final list.  So post away!!

Dev0From the folks at G4TV:

Rock ‘n roll legend and Devo founder Mark Mothersbaugh stopped by X-Play the other day and dropped the word that three Devo tracks are coming to Rock Band, including anti-anthem “Through Being Cool!”

Mothersbaugh said they three songs were coming to the game, “And we re-recorded one.”

“They wanted ‘Through Being Cool’ for some reason, which is kind of odd because its all synth solos,” Mothersbaugh said. “So we re-recorded it. My brother Bob, who’s our guitar player, played all my synth solos, synth leads, as guitar leads, so it would relate to the game better, and then we recorded one of those little crazy endings that they put on it.”

No word yet on what other Devo tracks are coming or when they will be available, but as soon as we hear, we’ll whip that info out to ya.

In a recent interview with Activision’s CEO in the May edition of Conde Nast Portfolio magazine, Bobby Kotick answers a few questions that lead to more questions. Are we looking at drums and singing in the next release of the GH franchise ? How do you sort through thousands and thousands of local bands to add to a game that will have mass appeal? Here’s an excerpt of the 4 page interview (click the link above to read the entire piece):

We pulled this handy information from the Rock Band folks themselves - its just in a hidden little spot on their website.  This explains the thought process on the song choices this week… well, a little.

The Police, Clash & Ramones DLC

Punk rock time again, yee-ha! Don’t tell us you didn’t want one more track from the Ramones, the Clash and, in one of their punkier moments, the Police. Only one of these three songs (the Clash) was a single rather than an album track, but all now stand with these bands’ most-loved moments.

In an article by the St. Pete Times (FL), journalist Dalia Wheatt discovers what many “real” guitar players have learned the hard way:  Guitar Hero can be tough to beat!

Wheatt interviews Matchbox Twenty’s guitarist Kyle Cook - part of the Orlando based band that was formed 10 years ago.  In the article, Cook answers:

Wheatt: Are you a big “Guitar Hero” fan? Is it easier or harder to play the video game since you actually play the guitar?

Cook: My little brother, who doesn’t play a lick of guitar, will just smoke me on that game. And I don’t get it. A lot of the songs I know, because some of them are from my era, like “Sweet Child o’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses. I’m like, “Dude, I know how to play that song (on a real guitar). How are you smokin’ me on this game?” It’s just tough for me. I think it’s ’cause I’m a player; I can’t get used to this little color-coded thing and looking at light beams coming at my head.

We feel for ya Kyle.

I guess it really is all fun and games over at Harmonix.   I recently chatted with the Sean over at Harmonix, and he was telling me that he was currently in LA and it might be a little while before he got to the interview.  I asked what they were doing in LA, and it turns out they are working with the Grammy Foundation.  I’ll just quote his email:

We are working with the Grammy Foundation. They have a day where high
school students come in and can see about occupations in the music field
that aren’t just about being in a band. It is really cool. We actually
do a lot of stuff like this. Just recently John Drake did a night with
the Fenway Foundation for one of the parties for the kids in the
program. We also are wicked active with the Child’s Play charity that
Penny Arcade set up for providing games and toys to kids in children’s
hospitals. We love that stuff!

Talk about a dream job.. I’m jealous.  Working for a company that’s all about games and music, and helping the community, AND getting to go to the grammys and do demos.  If you’re hiring I just got laid off from Symantec after 8 years (and 3 mergers)…… :)

HarmonixThe questions have been sent off!  It’s probably going to take them a week to get the questions routed to the right people, but as soon as we get the completed interview we’ll post it!  Thank you for all the GREAT questions that were submitted.

Edit:  Discussions closed.  Thanks for all the great questions!

The fine folks at Harmonix have granted us an interview and we’re in the process of putting together the questions. Jen and I are really psyched about it and were wondering….. What would our readers ask? So I asked Harmonix if they would mind fielding some community questions and of course, they said ’sure’. So use that little comment box below and post some interesting questions… The three we like best (We are judge and jury on this one folks…. ) will be asked. Just a word of advice… I’m pretty sure asking the question ‘When are we going to be able to play ________ on Rock Band’ won’t be considered.
