I forget how much I love Metallica sometimes. Watching this video reminded me in less than 5 seconds.

After a DLC-filled December for Guitar Hero fans, January brings in an even bigger catch.  Activision today announced new songs will be available from Travis Barker, Silverchair and Rascal Flatts in January, plus new DLC from Hinder and Nickelback in December. If you’re an Oasis fan, you’ll also get the chance to complete the Dig Out Your Soul album!  We’ll put this all up on the Events Calendar so you can’t forget but in the meantime here’s the breakdown:

December 23

Hinder -“Use Me”
Nickelback - “Because of You”
Rev Theory -  “Light it Up”

Activision recently sent notice that contained the schedule for all of the Guitar Hero World Tour downloadable content for December.  We reported all the dates and artists, and added them to the Events Calendar so you couldn’t forget, but sometimes it’s just nice to have a reminder isn’t it?  Well, today you are reminded that the Eagles DLC is available!  Good stuff too!

Also, for you Xbox Live users, if you haven’t tried this handy new feature, you may want to check it out.  If you’re away from your console but on the internet (say, at your job!), you can head to the Xbox Marketplace which allows you to make your DLC purchases online and adds them to your download queue.   So, next time you turn the console on, the download starts!  Nice feature huh? Will you be picking these up?

  • Eagles Track Pack  - 440 pts
  • One of These Nights - 160 pts
  • Life in the Fast Lane - 160 pts
  • Frail Grasp on the Big Picture - 160 pts

guitarherohammettxAlthough we’ve yet to receive our copy of Game Informer mag, we hear from the ScoreHero folks there are juicy details included on the upcoming title from the Guitar Hero folks: Guitar Hero Metallica.  If there were only one band that could hold their own having a solo band game, my vote would be for these super rockers, who have been jamming since 1981.

The gameplay will follow the style of Guitar Hero World Tour, meaning it’s (up to) a 4- person band game, and the track list will work in a way similar to Activision’s previous single band game, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.  Of the 45 or so expected songs, approximately 40% will be from bands who have worked with or influenced Metallica.

Dear Consumers,

Would you guys pretty please purchase the Guitar Hero World Tour bundle before the end of the year? Our sales really haven’t been what we’d like, and the economy is bad, and we’re probably laying off some of my friends and I can’t take it anymore! I’ll give you 5 free downloadable songs if you buy before December 31 - would that help?

Sincerely,

Bobby Kotick
CEO Activision

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet and gotten yourself the newest Guitar Hero game - now might be your chance. Guitar Hero World Tour (the package including the game plus the guitar) is on sale at Amazon for only $69.99 - normally the price of the guitar alone. Already own the game software? Take the deal and just bring the game over to your local game store for a trade in credit, or better yet, give the game as a gift for the holidays to some poor unlucky soul who has only last year’s digs.

As promised, the folks over at Guitar Hero have definitely ramped up their release of new and fresh downloadable content for their Guitar Hero World Tour game.  With announcements covering the month of December week by week, Activision promises hits from the Smashing Pumpkins, the Eagles, Nirvana and some freebies in the reggae genre.  Read the press release below for the full details and check out the RockGamer.com Events calendar if you want to keep track of the dates.

It’s difficult to believe that three years ago today we were playing Guitar Hero on our PlayStation 2 with its squeaky 3/4 sized plastic Gibson SG controller. Within a short time the franchise evolved into a full band experience with Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour. With each new game came new guitar controllers officially licensed by Gibson, Fender, and various third-party controllers such as TAC and Nyko.

While some gamers may be satisfied with the standard, first party plastic controllers, others may be looking for a more realistic experience. Enter the Peak Starpex PS2/PS3 wireless guitar controllers, the first full size, wooden guitar controller in wide supply.
