With the upcoming release of Rock Band 2, the continued debate over which system will offer the most bang for your buck continues to heat up. Many people continue to press the point that the PS2 and Wii versions of the game will be inferior to their PS3 & 360 counterparts, due to their lack of gameplay features.
We’ve heard the complaints regarding no DLC, no online play and no character creation/customization. As a current owner of all four of the above consoles, I’d have to agree that those complaints are valid, at least in regard to Rock Band 1. However, in an article published on Wired.com, author Chris Kohler claims that he was told by Harmonix reps (unnamed in the article) at last month’s E3, that “the Wii version of Rock Band 2 will be a much more competitive product.”
He goes on to say that the above quote was understood to apply to the realms of both downloadable content and online play. (No information on character creation.) These would be much-welcomed, and necessary additions to the franchise in order for the Wii to remain competitive with the PS3 & 360 iterations. Not only would this be fun to watch sales-wise to see which systems sell the most copies, but this is necessary for the Wii’s Rock Band 2 to be able to have a legitimate chance against Guitar Hero: World Tour on the same console, for which online play and access to DLC has already been confirmed.
Keep in mind, there has been no official word on this development from EA/Harmonix/MTV, and with the lack of details in the article, we’ll have to chalk it up as rumor for now. I can definitely see this happening though, as the Guitar Hero franchise has already successfully incorporated online play on the Wii. Plus, with DLC coming for Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Nintendo stating recently that they are (finally) looking into storage solutions for their hard drive lacking console, the probability of making the Wii version of Rock Band 2 on par with its next-gen counterparts looks very likely. We’ll be sure to post any updates as information becomes available.

Yep. In fact, somewhere on this site (rockgamer.com) is a link to some videos taken at E3. In one of the videos the developers plainly say that the wii version will support online play, DLC, etc.
Old news, but thanks for helping to “spread the word”
