Metallica’s Death Magnetic: Song List and Title Talk

The Metallica.com website has announced the running order and the final song titles for their forthcoming 12th album Death Magnetic, which should be released in stores and simultaneously as downloadable content for Guitar Hero III sometime in September. Frontman James Hetfield also explains how they came up with the title of the album.

Here’s the full tracklist:

  • That Was Just Your Life
  • The End Of The Line
  • Broken, Beat & Scarred
  • The Day That Never Comes
  • All Nightmare Long
  • Cyanide
  • The Unforgiven III
  • The Judas Kiss
  • Suicide & Redemption
  • My Apocalypse
  • Singer and frontman James Hetfield has explained the meaning of the record’s title, saying, “It started out as kind of a tribute to people that have fallen in our business, like (Alice In Chains frontman) Layne Staley and a lot of the people that have died, basically — rock and roll martyrs of sorts. And then it kind of grew from there. Thinking about death…just like a magnet, some people are drawn towards it, (and) other people are afraid of it and push away.”

Hetfield added, “The concept that we’re all gonna die sometimes is over-talked about and then a lot of times never talked about — no one wants to bring it up; it’s the big white elephant in the living room. But we all have to deal with it at some point.”

Although we’ve heard rumors that there may be a Metallica-only version of Guitar Hero, no additional news on that one yet. For those of you who are pumped to get Guitar Hero: World Tour, don’t you worry, you will be able to experience Metallica’s “Death Magnetic” for drums, vocals, and guitar when that game hits shelves in October.

New song on the radio today, The Day That Never Comes, sucked pretty bad except for the end.
