The largest video game war in history has been launched. For once it’s not ID vs. Epic, it’s Activision vs. Harmonix, and the winner can only be us. Take a look at this GORGEOUS Fender that was featured over at IGN. I want to hold it, smell it, I want to push its buttons. I am simply in love with the way they made this guitar look. One of the PR spins that Harmonix has been spreading around the web is that they put massive effort into making the instruments better and quieter. If it plays like it looks, then we are in for a treat. Activision (even though the developer is Neversoft) fired the first volley, and Harmonix didn’t even flinch. The war has begun. From us at Rockgamer to both Harmonix and Neversoft, may the best set list win. I just can’t wait to see who got The Beatles. Continue reading for a close up of the gorgeous instrument.

We need to see it a bit closer, IMO. How fine is the resolution on the wood-grain image they used? Can you see the individual dots of the print job? And how well protected is the finish from use? Two weeks of furious fretwork later, will the wood-grain still look factory-fresh, or will your neck have a few bald spots on it?
It’s an ambitious design, aesthetically, but there’s a lot that might backfire.
