According to a financial statement submitted by Activision to the SEC, the following news just came to light:
“In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms,” the company said in its report.
Activision’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009, which means that the game will likely follow the holiday release of Guitar Hero: World Tour in Q1 of 2009.
Gamespot reported the news earlier today that analyst Edward Woo of Wedbush Morgan Securities had found this gem while sifting through the financial statement’s section focusing on the publisher’s upcoming game slate.
I LOVE Metallica and I really, really hope this isn’t an exclusive deal with Guitar Hero, meaning no more Metallica in any of the other non-one-band formatted games. Of course, that’s most unlikely, since Metallica was one of the most vocal bands that fought the good fight against people downloading music using Napster and other file sharing services, with a strong belief in artists getting paid for their work. Exclusivity usually yields higher sales prices, so let’s hope Metallica has seen some light and will spread the love to the other games in the hopes of generating more buzz and more overall revenue. And, for some potential good news, since it’s coming out after GH:WT, let’s hope this is at least an ALL INSTRUMENT game!

I wonder if you’ll get to play as Lars with a trash can lid as the snare when you’re doing St. Anger songs…

*sigh* Jen, you’re too fast for me….
Hopefully they don’t go any further with their discography than the black album. The rest is crap. And maybe we’ll get lucky and whatever non-Metallica songs they use are from the 2-disc Garage Days album so we at least get the Metallica versions instead of Neversoft’s in-house studio band…..
Oh, and I wonder if Cliff & Jason will be playable characters - MUST HAVE ANESTHESIA(PULLING TEETH) WITH CLIFF!!!!!
Too bad there’s no chance in hell they’d be able to get Dave Mustaine in this.

Knowing Metallica this was not cheap since they are all about getting paid. Since it seems that Activision is trying to take everything they can to stay ahead of the Rock Band game, I would not be surprised if they inked a deal.
Either way for me win win since I play both games.

i’m psyched either way…..but they def should’ve waited to put out these “band” exclusive titles with full instruments……seems like a rushed title if the technology is there for the other instruments, or at least program it to work with the instruments as they’re released.
but all ideas above are great, make it like a VH1 behind the music story where they started with this lineup, and then slowly go through the changes and tragedy that shaped them into today’s lineup (even having a few megadeth songs on there scattered would be great, if they could make it happen)
lots of potential…….just def hope it stays 60-70% black and earlier albums.
